Questions About Graphic Design

Graphic Design

“Every day, we take many of the subtly artistic things around us for granted. But hidden in every magazine corner, exit sign or textbook lies a set of design ideas that influence our perceptions.”

– Jacob Smith

I create brand identities (assets like logos, typography, color palettes & image libraries that represent a brands personality) and images for marketing & advertising (like posters, postcards, brochures, menus, email campaigns, and social media campaigns).

Amongst many goals, my graphic design service helps my client to build a visual presence that gives them the platform to stand out amongst their competitors, and to communicate visual ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate their audience.

I do! Great logo design is such a challenge and it’s a real passion for me. You can check out my design portfolio here to see some examples. And please free to schedule a (complimentary) conversation or send me an email so we can discuss your vision and your options.

Easy! The best is to schedule a (complimentary) 30 minute conversation, but you can also shoot me an email if you prefer.

Every project is different depending on the size and the scope of the deliverable. The easiest way for me to give you an accurate quote is by having a conversation so I can better understand exactly what you’re looking for.

Maybe. Hopefully! Most of the time, I book projects a few weeks in advance. However, I try to leave room in my schedule for small ‘helps’, or for new clients to begin working with me. Give me a shout and I can provide a clear timeframe.

Fun, I hope! This is what the process of working together generally looks like:

  • First, we schedule a free 30 minute consultation to determine a mutual fit.
  • If we are in simpatico, I’ll prepare a proposal (with goals, deliverables, cost & timeline) for you to review. When approved, I’ll send you a contract.
  • After the contract is signed and deposit paid, we’ll schedule a kick-off meeting to review the goals for the project and answer any questions you may have.
  • I’ll get started on designs and we’ll work together to refine the piece until you’re ready to give the stamp of approval.
  • You love it, and approve it, and we celebrate!!!

Every client and project is different. The easiest way for me to give you an accurate quote is by jumping on a (complimentary) call so I can assess what you need- and/or feel free to write me at [email protected] with the specifics of your project and I’d be happy to provide an estimate.

Questions About Website Design

Website Design

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

– Steve Jobs

I’m aware that for a lot of people reaching out to a web designer can feel intimidating – and that in a lot of cases clients aren’t entirely sure what they need. If this is the case for you, please feel free to reach out with any questions, or schedule a (complimentary) consultation. I’d be happy to offer you my feedback on your specific case even if you’re not quite ready to jump the gun.

There’s not one single answer to this question. The price of a website design is quoted based on the needs of each individual project. Every website is unique and requires different components – I design and develop custom websites specifically for your small (or large) business. I’ll ask a lot of questions, assess your needs, and give you a quote based on that assessment. Most of the websites I develop run in the $1500-7000 range, but can be more or less depending on your needs.

This is a tricky question to answer without knowing the specifics of the project.

In general, I shoot for a 4-8 week turnaround, but the pace for each project is set by the client. How much input you can provide during the initial stages, your availability with feedback, how soon the content is ready – all affect the speed of completion. The functionality needs and size of your specific site may also play a role in the timeline – meaning that more complex sites (with a lot of inventory, classes, courses, or forms) will take more time to develop.

Yes! I love it when my clients take control of their website and learn to manage it on their own.

I build sites with a customized WordPress framework (or Squarespace, WIX, or Shopify if you prefer). This means that you will have access to a secure dashboard where you can edit texts, make posts, and upload images safely and easily.

After you’ve approved and signed off on your new website, I’ll provide you with a training session to help you learn your way around the dashboard of your site and help you get on your way.

***(Also: I’m available to answer your questions at any time, and/or update the site for you if you prefer).

I can! I provide on-going support for many of my clients.

When we agree to work together I can either offer a set price for the project (which will not change as long as the scope of the project is not altered during production), or if you prefer – I can work at an hourly rate.

The other common costs associated with creating a website are for website hosting and domain registration. Website hosting generally runs somewhere between 100-150 dollars a year (depending on your host and your specific needs), and a domain will typically run you anywhere between 10 – 100 dollars a year (depending on the desirability of your particular domain name). However, when I create the specific project bid and outline for your project, the exact price for both the hosting package and the domain name will be included to reflect to your unique hosting & domain needs/goals.

A lot!! Your input and feedback is crucial in the process. I’ll start with a lot of questions about your needs, your likes, your wants and work with you to develop just the right look and functionality.

Usually, that is you. You are the expert on your business, so it’s usually best if it comes from you. If you need help, I can recommend copywriters who can help to clean up, zhush up, or write original content for you at an extra cost.

After we’ve had a chance to speak and decided that we are a mutual fit, I will prepare a proposal (complete with goals, deliverables, cost & timelines) for you to review. Upon approval, you will provide a 50% deposit and I will begin the build. When the project is complete, the remaining 50% is due before I sign the site over to you.

Probably! Part of my job is to understand brands, their uniqueness, their values, and the audience that they are marketing to and reflect that in the aesthetic. For example, a law firm is probably looking for an aesthetic that says: scholarly. sharp. winning. trustworthy. professional….while an exuberate clothing company might want to say: fresh. new. creative. different. unique. original. I, personally, have enjoyed working for/with both of the above and I think you’ll be able to see how I addressed their specific brand identities on my website design page.

In addition, if your brand already has pre-established design guidelines, then yes: absolutely. I am able to work in the aesthetic of your design guidelines.

QUESTIONS ABOUT WHO IS MAKING THIS
03

Who Are You?

I’m Erin! I made this website and all the stuff in it. I think I would describe myself as someone with an endless fascination on how to best organize color/size/space/information on a page for the most beautiful and compelling result possible. In all honesty, I usually spend a lot more time on my projects than I should (outside billable hours). I suppose I’m driven by surprise, discovery and a quest for visual harmony.

I have a degree in Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art, and have been working in the visual medium for pretty much my whole life – though professionally for 20 years – and I’m still really excited about it. I live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and am originally from Colorado. I love adventure, discovery, pets, simplicity, projects, freedom. I’m fun to work with! I’d be delighted to chat with you if you think I’d be a good fit for your project.
